LAWNMOWER PULLEYS

lawnmower pulleys

Is there excessive noise on the mower deck?

It could be the pulley. Check lawnmower pulleys for wear and worn out bearings. If in doubt replace the pulley. Many times the lawnmower pulley has a zerk (grease) fitting. It may just need to be greased. Always remember to shut the lawn mower off before attempting any maintenance on the unit. Excessive vibration could be bent or broken blades.

How often do your belts break?

When you replace the same belt twice in the same season, this should be a warning. There is a deeper problem than a faulty belt. Check the belt for uneven wear or excessive wear. The lawnmower pulleys rides on bearings that allow them to spin freely. When the pulleys does not spin freely, they produce friction between the pulleys and the belts, eventually wearing out the belts. Pulleys can widen out after many years of wear. Again, replace the pulleys.

Pulleys can be found on engine shafts, mower decks, transmissions and the undercarriage of the mower frame. Pulleys are designed so they can be replaced. Usually by removing a nut or loosening a set-key will allow the pulley to be slipped off of its shaft. You may need a clutch puller especially if there are years of rust built up. lawn mower pulleys
